Built by 100 German masons over 6 years, the 9,300 square foot Castle is constructed of local silica sandstone, painstakingly brought to the property by horse and wagon in the Gilded Age. The Castle has been modernized over the years while retaining its classic charm, including a lavish ballroom complete with two stone fireplaces and Grand Staircase. With a dungeon tucked into a secret passageway, griffins providing stony vigilance, steep topography maximizing natural defense, and a turreted rooftop with battlements and a spectacular view, the Castle hearkens back to European traditions.

Berkeley Springs Castle Foundation Becomes An Official Certifying Organization for President's Volunteer Service Award

The Berkeley Springs Castle Foundation is proud to announce that we have been designated as an official Certifying Organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award. This prestigious award recognizes the invaluable contributions of volunteers who have dedicated their time and effort to various causes.

 The President's Volunteer Service Award is a civil honor bestowed by the President of the United States, which aims to honor individuals, families, and groups who have demonstrated a commitment to volunteerism. The award consists of a personalized certificate, an official medallion, and a congratulatory letter from the President.

 To qualify for this esteemed award, volunteers must meet certain criteria based on the number of hours served. For instance, the bronze level recognizes volunteers who have dedicated a minimum of 100-249 hours to service, while the silver level honors 250-499 hours, and the gold level commemorates 500 or more hours of volunteer service within a 12-month period. These hours can be accumulated through volunteer activities such as community outreach, fundraising events, and other initiatives that contribute to the betterment of our society. They can be combined from different service organizations such a local church, community cleanup, food pantry or historical association.

 Volunteering is an essential component of the Berkeley Springs Castle Foundation's success, as it allows us to continue our mission of preserving and promoting the historical and cultural significance of the Berkeley Springs Castle. Our dedicated volunteers have played a vital role in the development and execution of numerous projects, events, and educational programs that benefit both the Castle and our community.

 By becoming an official Certifying Organization for the President's Volunteer Service Award, the Berkeley Springs Castle Foundation aims to encourage more individuals to participate in volunteer work and recognize those who have already made significant contributions to our cause.
